The project is located at the foot of Kahneri caves in Sanjay Gandhi National Park, Mumbai. The people who go for a walk or to cycle here, experience a change from the busy, hectic city which is densely populated to a calm and relaxed space. The site is located at the walking/ cycling end point. People relax around this point for a while before heading back to the city. It is also an important point as it provides a pause point for visitors before they climb up to the Kanheri caves, hence this point attracts a large number of tourists. The idea of sacred space for this project is more about connecting with your true inner self which lies in the deepest part of our mind. The idea of sacred is also deeply connected with nature. Which leads to the idea of building a space which is not only for humans but for plants, animals and other living beings. The project also negotiates with existing landscape and focuses more on the concept of built and unbuilt. It also tries to dissolve and merge with the existing landscape and terrain. There are many small intimate spaces which are surrounded by plants, birds, rocks and water, which can calm our whole body, in the hope to reconnect with ourselves. Programmatically there are common public spaces like garden, library, hall, play area, etc. The whole project is a negotiation of rough-ruggy rocks with smooth texture of concrete to wild thorny plants and soft grass.
